Murder Mystery Theater: Doctor Who-Dunnit

If you’re anything like me, and let’s be honest, if you’re reading this you are. Then you’ll be thrilled to hear about the murder mystery show that’s bigger on the inside! I heard about this themed mystery dinner theater because I had met its co-president and co-founder Isaac Pierce at Wondercon 2014. I have a very clear image of the meeting because The Nerdy Girlie nearly fan girled all over him (yes I’m outing you Megan)! Any who, the meeting was brief but I friended him and Neil from The Adventure Effect on Facebook shortly after. As many of you know, I’m always actively looking for interesting people to feature here on the blog for you, and they struck me as such.

Now with it being a year or so later, I got a Facebook invite from Isaac to the Doctor Who-Dunnit. What is the Doctor Who-Dunnit you say? Nerder Mysteries has put together an event on the Queen Mary in order to attempt to solve the biggest question: Who-dunnit?

“Everyone is invited to come on down to watch as a great evil looms on the decks of the RMS Queen Mary. At three points in her history Ghosts appear to change her fate and her only hope; you. Can you help the Doctor solve the mystery of the Grey Ghosts of the Famous RMS QUEEN MARY? TIME WILL TELL!”

I’ve been on the Queen Mary, it’s a gorgeous ship! So to have it hosted on board is just icing on the TARDIS cake! The event is an interactive dining experience with a fully catered lunch buffet. Each guest receives a U.N.I.T. folder with clues and a place to keep track of each suspect in the case. There will also be costumes, prizes, photo ops with a life-size Tardis, along with surprise guests and plot twists! Guests are encouraged to dress up as their favorite alien, villain, companion, or Doctor and prizes will be awarded to the best dressed, as well as to the best sleuth. Parking is also included in the ticket price.

(no they’ll park it on the boat)

If all that wasn’t enough for you, there will be a silent charity auction will be held to benefit LUMOS. LUMOS is a charity founded by Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. The charity strives to help 8 million institutionalized children worldwide, by assisting them in regaining their family life and ending the institutionalization system. 100% of the proceeds from the silent charity auction will be donated directly to LUMOS. Make sure to watch the video below and visit their website for more details.

So what about the company putting all this together? Nerder Mysteries is a brand new nonprofit company based out of Southern California. It is the brain child of Isaac Pierce and Katie Aiani. Each of them had a dream to be more heavily involved in charity, while pursuing acting, writing, participating in the fandom communities. They aim to produce multiple unique nerd themed shows each year, that will hold charity auctions like LUMOS. Katie, having been a long time Harry Potter fan, chose LUMOS partly because JK Rowling is a personal role model and an inspiration to her. Katie has always been involved in charities such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, Dog rescue groups, Zonta International, and KEY Club of Kiwanis.

Isaac Pierce, the other half of Nerder Mysteries, has also dedicated his time to volunteer work with children at events, hospitals, and C.A.P.E.S. His 10th Doctor cosplay (pictured above) brings joy to numerous people. “Watching people’s faces just light up when they see the doctor coming around the corner is truly magical.” A year ago, Isaac tragically broke his leg after falling and smashing his knee cap. As he cold not afford the surgery necessary to walk again, he began a Gofundme campaign to reach out for help. The support was overwhelming and he managed to get the surgery he needed. Months of bed-rest and feeling helpless, he vowed to figure out a way to give back to the community, ‘ten-fold’ the moment he was back on his feet.

A volunteer cast of cosplayers and friends who are heavily involved in the convention and cosplay communities come together to create this fantastic event. They are always looking for donations for their charity auction, location suggestions, volunteer actors, writers, production staff and directors, for their shows. If interested, please contact
